The 35 best free museums in Lake Placid (2024)

The Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort is a luxurious lakeside resort that caters to families with rooms big enough for everyone. Facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a hot tub, a sauna, and a fitness center. The resort also has its own private beach area with playground and water sports rentals available.

We brought our older dog with us, who can be a little anxious in new situations. The staff was very accommodating and even gave a nice little bag of treats to make him feel at home. The room was very clean and had a great view. Would definitely stay again!

Absolutely wonderful! I had been in the lobby years ago and have always wanted to stay there. When the opportunity arose I knew where I wanted to stay in lake placid. We stayed in the Echo suite (room 200) and it was outstanding. Very spacious, lovely accommodations. Everything about the resort is amazing. The pool has an area that’s 1ft deep which was perfect for our daughter. And between access to the Alpine mall, Generations, and proximity to town you can’t go wrong with the resort

A very nice lodge overlooking mirror lake right in the middle of town in Lake Placid. Definitely very family friendly and great for couples for a nice getaway. Our room was very spacious. The bathroom was very nice, comfortable bed, a jacuzzi and a balcony overlooking the lake!!!! The air conditioning was a bit loud. But it was very quiet in the hallways at night. There is also an indoor pool, beach, fire pit, kayaks and canoes. There are so many rooms and hallways and they connect to the hotel’s restaurant where we had a free breakfast and it was very good!! We also got food there the night before and the gluten free pizza was outstanding! Their website is very helpful with showing multiple pictures of the rooms so you know what to expect. They were very nice with giving lots of pillows and towels. It is a little pricey especially at popular times in the season, yet it is right on Main Street on the lake so you have free parking and can walk around town very easily. It is worth it if you’re willing to pay a little extra for a very nice stay. However if you are looking for just a regular room or hotel for much cheaper I would stay somewhere else.

We were here for a lacrosse tournament. Bathrooms are spacious and updated. Front desk is friendly during the day. We checked in at 4am due to our flight getting cancelled. Our check in person at that time was not friendly but it was 4AM so will give him some grace (LOL). During normal hours the front desk staff were wonderful and very friendly. And courteous. Location is the best!

This was a wonderful, family friendly place to stay. We came for our baby moon and everyone was so helpful and accommodating, especially Kim. We wanted a room in a quiet corner of the hotel. She checked us in, made sure the room we had fit our needs and was always a welcome smiling face when we walked thorough the lobby, not to forget the delicious warm chocolate chip cookies she had waiting for guests in the lobby every evening. The location is great, easy walk to everything on the main strip. If you have kids and they love the water there is no reason to leave the resort, the hotel has so many items for water activities (water bike, paddle boat, kayaking, just to name a few). Highly encourage you to book a room, it’s well worth it.

We were there for a wedding. The wedding took place on top of the boathouse. It was lovely, however the stairs and handrails should have been in better condition for the safety of guests, especially the older ones. I realize it is winter, however more time coild and should have been spent tending to that matter. I also feel that when we upgraded to a haystack room there should have been a pathway snow blown or shoveled from the rooms lakeside door to the sidewalk. When I inquired about that I was told, generally the guests do that themselves. I don't know many guests that pack a shovel for their hotel stay. All things aside we were very pleased with the staff, always friendly, professional.

Amazing location. It's right in the lake and is attached to Generations and within walking distance of coffee, shops, and restaurants. The staff was so friendly, professional and helpful during our first time at Lake Placid. Our room was incredibly clean which is something so many hotels drop the ball on. Even though it needed a little upgrade, I was very comfortable and impressed with our stay.*the staff recommended we see the sunrise over the lake and it was SO worth it!

This resort was absolutely amazing! The entire staff, including the young workers at the beach house were absolutely terrific, very accommodating and everyone went out of their way to ensure we had the best time. The amenities, including free kayaks, paddle boards, and more truly made for a fun experience. The location is gorgeous overlooking mirror lake. I Can’t say enough good things about this resort! Can’t wait to go back!

Loved our stay at Golden Arrow! When you first walk in you are greeted by a large window with a perfect view of the lake and mountains. The front desk workers were friendly and helpful. Even provided us with free drink vouchers to help celebrate our anniversary. Hopefully when you visit you get the pleasure of meeting Cousin Vinny. He was very friendly to talk with throughout our stay and was always happy to go the extra mile. He provided great information about the resort, town, and surrounding area. When he found out it was our anniversary he went and grabbed us a bottle of wine and some glasses just to make it all the more enjoyable. He was a highlight of our trip.

It was our third time at Lake Placid and at Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort and it was wonderful as always. Mirror Lake is beautiful and the hotel is a gem. The staff is kind and helpful and the beach is gorgeous. Plenty of equipment (kayaks, life vests, paddle boards) available for use. We love it there and will def be back.

A great hotel, in the most perfect location in Lake Placid. We had the beach access room, we could open the patio, and be right there. The views with mirror lake are amazing. The rooms feel a bit older, but everything works. Our only issue was that early in the morning, 0600 hrs, we could completely hear the flushing by our neighbor and it woke us multiple times. Restaurants and shopping are really close by. Parking is free.

Golden Arrow Resort is perfect for a romantic getaway or a fun family trip. Everything is top of the line and very clean. The restaurant is accessible without going outside, the food is great--and I'm a foodie. Many environmentally friendly features. Lots of fun water toys for free. It wasn't super crowded in September, so we had plenty of space to roam and have alone time. The view is even better than it looks online--and tons of places to enjoy it from! There is plenty of shopping and there are lots of other restaurants around. This was the PERFECT place to come back to after hiking in the beautiful Adirondacks!

This is our favorite place to stay in Lake Placid. It’s so convenient on the main drag. The speciality rooms with the fire place and tub are nice after hiking all day. We always take advantage of the amenities: pool, hot tob, steam room, coffee in the lobby area, and pond during the winter to ice skate. Everything is always very clean and the staff are always friendly. It’s so pretty at in that time when it’s lit up and the indoor decor is just a comfy feeling. Stayed here at least 6 different times and will always come back!

We stay at Golden Arrow every winter so our son can skate on their rink on the lake, and we love it every year! The location is perfect and allows us to walk just about everywhere we want to go. The staff is always helpful and friendly, including having the ice brushed off so kids could skate early in the morning. This is a trip we look forward to every year, and we wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else!

This is our 4th or 5th time staying here (I can’t remember) but this last time was enough for me to write a review. We came for our first wedding anniversary and it was the best stay yet. The staff treated us to two free drinks and hand wrote a really nice card that we received at check in. Our room was spotless and our bed was super comfy. The lake view can’t be beat and we loved our room. The staff went above and beyond when we asked for cutlery and plates so my husband and I could enjoy our wedding cake that we had brought along. Everything was amazing and we can’t wait to go back. See you in the fall!

If you're looking for a romantic relaxing getaway in the Adirondacks, look no further than the Golden Arrow! My husband and I had both of our weddings (a small COVID one and our big celebration one year later) at the Golden Arrow, so it will always hold a special place in our hearts. This was our first time vacationing during leaf peeping season and it did not disappoint! We stayed in the Normandy specialty room, and it was definitely worth the splurge! The in-room fireplace and jacuzzi with breathtaking views of Mirror Lake made it a luxurious experience like no other! From swimming in the indoor pool to kayaking on the lake (the kayaks and canoes are a complimentary service for guests to use) and reading on our private balcony, the amenities at the Golden Arrow are sure to help you relax and recharge during your stay. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and will try their best to accommodate your every request. We were sad to leave but can't wait for our next vacation here and 10/10 recommend the Golden Arrow!

❤️ Beautiful location, right on the edge of the lake and also right on Main Street! Beautiful Christmas-style gold lights around the edges of the hotel, friendly, courteous, polite, and always-smiling front desk agents. Quick check-in, gorgeous lobby, soft beds, soft warm blankets, well-taken-care-of overall appearance, and a peaceful relaxing experience here. Thank you to the Golden Arrow staff for making my and my partner's stay a pleasant one! ❤️

Golden Arrow has the best beach on Mirror Lake, and the proximity to downtown shops and restaurants is a big plus. Staff is friendly and helpful. Having a restaurant and pool is also a plus. The room was very nice and love the view from 3rd floor balcony. Too bad they don’t do a daily maid service. They really need to add streaming to the TV. One TV remote doesn’t work and one window shade doesn’t go up and down. Maintenance never showed up to fix or replace the remote. These are minor issues and we’d come back in a minute. The kayaks and canoes are much appreciated and the beach is lovely.

Great hotel with an amazing location right on Mirror Lake! We have stayed here a few times during the summer, one of those times being right after COVID, and always had a pleasant stay! It was very helpful that there is a restaurant on site that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Great place for families! Get the lake view rooms!!

Wedding review for anyone considering the venue. I have a million good things to say about the Golden Arrow and staff. From the first meeting onward, Alex, Erin and Natasha were amazing. They were always responsive and helpful for any questions we had throughout the planning process. There’s many beautiful places in Lake Placid for a wedding, but what really sold us was of course the beautiful gondola and LOCATION. Our guests loved being able to walk out of the resort onto the main street for additional dining, shopping, etc. There’s also plenty of parking at the resort and public parking all around it. We had our ceremony on the lawn, co*cktail hour on the boathouse, and reception in the four seasons room. With just under 100 guests there was more than enough space without feeling overcrowded. They also had a suitable backup plan in the event of a downpour, but we were lucky enough to have beautiful weather. The bridal suite is extremely spacious with floor to ceiling windows overlooking Mirror Lake. They have curtains if you’re worried about guests looking in on you getting ready. There’s also a restroom inside the suite. Erin checked in throughout the day to see if we needed anything and answer any last minute questions we may have had. My husband and I opted not to do a first look, so our photographs did a great job keeping us separated before the ceremony as the resort is quite spacious. There are so many beautiful spots on the property for photos beyond the obvious lake/mountain views. Our photographer and DJ were recommended by the Golden Arrow. We were very happy with their familiarity with the resort and the staff as they have worked together on multiple occasions. This made for smooth sailing throughout the day. (Photos: Jeff Welt, DJ: MX Productions) Alex noticed the song I walked down the aisle to was a Foo Fighters song and when she took us out on the gondola played Foo Fighters music for us. It made it even more memorable and fun. The resort was very accommodating to dietary restrictions. We did a buffet and Natasha made sure everything was labeled accordingly. Erin made sure my husband and I got appetizers between photos and greetings. She also went above and beyond to accommodate my celiac disease restrictions. Natasha also made sure my husband and I got our drinks and dinner as guests were occupying much of our time. We had an amazing reception full on nonstop dancing, and when that ended we moved the party to the nightclub Roomers which is conveniently located next door. You can also access it through the resort as the buildings are attached. 10/10 would recommend!

This was a great home base for us. We had early morning bagels on our balcony over the lake, hiked during the day, and came back to the hot tub in the pool room. Perfect location in the village. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was very clean and beds comfortable.

We were visiting to complete the Lake Placid 9er and it was such a treat coming back from each hike to our room. The location and views are phenomenal, the bed was super comfortable, and everyone was welcoming and attentive. Even during the fall, we were able to enjoy kayaking on the lake; an amenity provided by the resort. To those looking for pet reviews: We had our dog with us—it was important to me that we accomplish the peaks together. I have to say that Golden Arrow's pet policy and accommodation was highly appreciated. The policy and general fees were very fair, we were given a room with easy outdoor access, some of the receptionists even greeted our dog by name, and minus one owner*, I could hardly tell other dogs were on the property. *I hope us owners can continue to be great dog ambassadors so lovely places like Golden Arrow can be enjoyed by everyone! My only complaint is that some wedding guests can be disruptive at night, but we came during a beautifully scenic time, and I'm positive management would mitigate the situation if we had said something (it really was not so bad that it was worth upsetting the newlyweds). On a positive note, it was sweet seeing the ceremonies in the morning.Golden Arrow, thank you for this amazing stay! One of the most restorative vacations I've had to date. We know where we'll be booking when we come back to the mountains. (Picture of dog is at Bear Den, not Golden Arrow)

In town for a hockey tournament and we could not have asked for a more convenient place to stay. This hotel has exceptional service, staff and amenities from the hotel to the restaurants , gift shops mall shops attached to the hotel. Walk the town or take a 17 minute drive to Whiteface Mountain ski lodge. Stunning views are the icing on the cake. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
