Chapter Text
Days pass. Days turn to a week. Suddenly it’s Friday, two weeks from that eventful and thrilling day. You’ve checked your phone incessantly, but to no avail. Your view time on Valkyrae’s stream has certainly gone up, but she’s been pretty tight lipped about it.
“Chat, he is not coming back in here, I swear!” Your voice fills your apartment as your mind races. There are two trains of thought occurring in your head.
On one hand, you are laser focused on your stream. You can almost feel the neurons fire as you push past any nerves you might have and turn a normal video game into what you hope is a hilarious viewing experience.
On the other hand, you can’t stop thinking about the lottery to go to L.A. and stream with Valkyrae. Your viewers don’t know it, but your phone is right next to you on your desk, only it’s not turned off like it normally is. The Twitch app is open, and Valkyrae’s stream is playing muted just below your second monitor.
Every few minutes, you can’t help but look over and see what is happening. You’ve been checking every time she goes live, so it’s not like you expect tonight to be any different. You just… don’t know what to expect. Least of all when to expect it.
The stream timer on your Twitch dashboard ticks over the three hour mark as you begin to think about winding down. You’re anxious enough about the lottery, but you think just watching Rae’s stream could be nice.
You sit and talk to chat for a bit, responding to messages. Looking at your phone one last time, you decide tonight just isn’t the night. You pay full attention to chat, trying to shrug off the feeling of your chest tightening.
“What mic do I use? Honestly I just use the Blue Yeti, it’s pretty standard. Thank you for the bits! I really appre—“
Your response is cut off by a sudden lapse in comprehension. Your concurrent viewership of 107 has just shot up to 793, and it’s still climbing. You look down at the chat, and your confusion grows.
‘omgggg’
‘CONGRATS’
‘Pog lets gooo’
‘You lucky bastard’
‘HOLY sh*t’
So many messages, and they’re all flooding in at once. For a moment you don’t understand, and all you can do is sit back in your chair. “Chat… What?!” you say with disbelief. Your eyes drift down to your phone, and you bring it close to you so you can really see.
In the corner of the screen sits Rae, eyes wide with excitement as a giddy grin takes over her face. As for the rest of the screen, well, it’s… Wait a second…
“That’s… that’s my stream. Oh my god.” You mutter to yourself, placing your phone down before pulling Rae’s stream up on your computer. You can’t believe what you’re seeing, and you switch the scene in OBS so your viewers can also see.
“Chat, that’s me! Why is she looking at my stream?” You say, exasperation evident in your tone as you unmute her stream. You begin to listen, and your suspicions are verified almost immediately.
“Oh my god, look how surprised he is! That is so crazy, good job chat. Oop, now he’s looking at us, it’s like a streamception!” Rae giggles as she looks down at her screen, genuine joy glowing from her face. She is a beautiful person, but you never really noticed how good it makes you feel to see her happy.
You wave nervously, trying to field your now thousands of new viewers while also addressing Rae through your stream. She smiles, pulling her microphone a bit closer to her face. “So now that I know you’re listening, congratulations! You are the winner of my little contest, and I am officially inviting you out to L.A. to stream with me!”
You pinch yourself, but you are definitely awake. “Wow, I’m so excited! I can’t wait for this opportunity, thank you so much.” you say, immense gratitude filling your mind where once there was anxiety.
The beautiful streamer smiles sweetly, “Hey, it was all you. That and a little bit of chance. I’m gonna be ending stream in a few but look out for a little more info through your Twitch whispers! Since you didn’t respond to the email confirming you won I figured I’d make sure the important stuff went somewhere you’d check.”
She is right about that. Not only were you trying to give up obsessively checking your email, but you have no Twitch whisper notifications. Who the f*ck uses Twitch whispers? You suppose that’s the point.
After bidding Rae adieu and returning to your own stream, you find that many of her viewers have stayed to watch you. On top of that, Rae raids you once she ends her stream. You make sure to put on a show, and end up streaming way longer than you had planned. It’s the best night of streaming you have ever had, and waving goodbye to the camera is one of the hardest things you’ve had to do in a while.
You look over your Twitch dashboard before shutting everything down, and your eyes widen at every number you see. Your follower count has gone from just below 4,000 to just above 10,000. Not to mention the fact that tonight was your highest earning night with subscriptions and pure donations.
You find your whisper messages and see a few notifications. Clicking the icon, you see one highlighted conversation with Valkyrae. “Guess she still has her Twitch account.” You think to yourself as you read over the info she’s sent your way.
‘Hey there! Hope you enjoyed how tonight went, probably a better way to find out you won than an email anyway.
Anyways! Idk what airport is closest to you or works best for you but I want to pay for your flight out here and back, so please don’t worry about the logistics. As long as you can get here.’
She includes the date she’d like you to arrive and her address. This is really it, there’s no denying it. For sh*ts and giggles you decide to check your email, curious about how the surprise was originally supposed to go. You refresh the page, but what you’re met with leaves you concerned.
You have no new emails.
