Everyone - I need your support. I had a traumatic birth followed by a c section and PP pre E.
My BP was very high and then stabilized and they let me leave. I just am so upset and scared about my next appointment I’ll have to go back to the hospital or something bc I’m afraid of the machine and it will be high. Has anyone else experienced this ? Im crying bc I want to enjoy my baby but im so anxious

I ended up with pp pre e my last pregnancy as well. It was extremely traumatic, leaving me on blood pressure meds for 7 months. I am still very anxious about it, specially now that I’m nearing the end of this pregnancy, but as long as you’re monitoring your BP and if you need to be on meds, you’ll be okay.
After being discharged with my daughter on a Friday I was readmitted at 1:30am Saturday morning, so not even home for 12 hours. Needed to be put on the mag drip, BP kept rising was in the 200s/100s, so I understand your anxiert 1000%! But they put me on nifedipine, BP was under control, I monitored daily for months and one random day I was on my peloton and felt light headed, took my BP and it was low so I called my doctors and the next day I didn’t take my meds, and hadn’t had to since. There are some facebook groups that have been helpful in easing my mind throughout this pregnancy, lots of positive second pregnancy stories after having pre E or pp pre E.

I never even made it to a follow up appt before needing to increase my dose. The night I was discharged after being readmitted it spiked so I called my on-call OB and she prescribed the meds. And the next night after already taken the one dose in the morning it spiked again so I called again and that’s when she increased the dose to 2x/day.
It’ll still help it come down regardless of anxiety. I was very anxious and mine was always kept at bay with the meds. I will say I’m sure at 7 months when I was able to come off completely my anxiety was much more managed, my daughter was sleeping better, therefore I was, I was also starting to get back into a workout routine and do things for myself so I’m sure that attributed to being able to come off the meds.

Are you able to monitor your BP at home?? That way you get some data / readings at home in your environment versus a doctors office?

I would recommend an at home monitor and pay close attention to your symptoms. Is your swelling going down? Pay attention to headaches, right upper abdomen pain, vision changes

I would still take them. If you take them multiple times a day does the anxiety wear off at all? You can still get a baseline from home readings, even if it’s higher than it really is. If it gets in the severe range then even if you think it’s due to anxiety you should get checked (150 or whatever your practitioner recommended)

currently trying to be zen because I had my first reading out of my range of 160/110 it was 149/110 I've been on Nifedipine for a couple of days now. I have always had hypertension, even pre-pregnancy, so I have a BP cuff that automatically sends my readings to the doctors office. I got an automated text to check again in 15 minutes and it went down to 149/109 but I'm scared to take it again. I don't want to go back to the hospital. that makes my BP so much higher!. 😭

this is exactly me verbatim. I called my doctor and explained that the cuff gives me terrible anxiety and high reading. She said that I didn’t *have* to take it at home unless I was feeling symptomatic

Just want to say this is me 100%. I stopped taking it at home because I was having such anxiety just seeing the machine. Then I would be slightly high, take it again and it would be through the roof. In my entire pregnancy and hospital stay for delivery I’ve never had the numbers I get from my machine at home. I just take my meds and am on the lookout for symptoms

I had post partum pre e with my first. Avoided it with my second by getting on meds immediately after birth. And I have pre e with my third delivering on Monday. Ask me anything! My first I had no problems during pregnancy and the week after I had baby I felt weird my mil checked my BP it was crazy high had to be remitted for 2 days on a mag drip then got medicine and was able to get off of it 8 months later. Also baby aspirin has been my best friend the past 4 years as well it keeps me from having to be on blood pressure medicine. Good luck to you! Don’t worry about checking so constantly just check once if you can and watch for symptoms. Your anxiety will definitely make it go up and give you a false reading so just do whatever works for you. If you’re in medicine now then you should be good ��
