SUMMARY: Caffeine is the most commonly used drug globally, with over 90% of adult Americans consuming it regularly. It has both benefits and risks. Positively, caffeine can enhance endurance exercise performance, aid in weight loss by suppressing appetite and boosting energy, and sharpen long-term memory. It may also reduce the risk of developing certain cancers, diabetes, stroke, and Parkinson's disease. However, excessive caffeine can increase anxiety, disrupt sleep, and affect fertility. Recommendations include a maximum of 400 mg per day for adults, 100 mg for teens, and caution for pregnant women (up to 200 mg) and children.

SUMMARY: Ham radio operators play a crucial role in maintaining communication when disasters knock out other infrastructures like cell towers. This weekend, the Southwest Louisiana Amateur Repeater Club, led by President Joshua Johnson, will participate in a yearly field day to hone their skills. Ham radios can communicate globally using minimal infrastructure, making them essential during emergencies. The field day at Pinder Roa Park lets club members demonstrate their abilities and connect with other hams worldwide. The club has 58 members and is part of a larger community of 44,000 licensed hams in the U.S. The event also welcomes newcomers interested in ham radio.

HAM radio operators have a long history of serving the community when storms or other disasters damage communication infrastructure like cell towers. This weekend, area “HAMs” will be taking part in their yearly Field Day to test their skills. We spoke to president of the SWLA Amateur Repeater Club, Joshua Johnson, to get the details.
