Updated on April 29, 2024, by Nahda Nabiilah: Raphael won’t be the only devil players will run into inside the House of Hope, as they will get the chance to meet Haarlep in Baldur’s Gate 3. The shape-shifter devil will be residing in Raphael's Boudoir and will take the form of Raphael since the self-absorbed and narcissistic devil only likes the company of himself. However, before meeting Haarlep, players must first earn a Boudoir invitation from the Archivist or sneak their way into Raphael's Boudoir from the outside balcony.
How to Reach the Devil’s Fee
In Baldur's Gate's Act 3, players can pursue entry to the House of Hope by seeking out Helsik, a specific shopkeeper found within Baldur’s Gate. Helsik's shop, the Devil’s Fee, is situated at coordinates (X:-39; Y:-9) in Baldur’s Gate's Lower City, located north of the Lower City - Central Wall Waypoint.
Before arriving at the shop, players might encounter mentions of Devil’s Fee and rumors about its peculiar shopkeeper, Helsik. These whispers suggest that Helsik might possess information related to accessing the Nine Hells. However, it's not obligatory to gather these details beforehand; players can visit the shop whenever they choose.
How to Barter with Helsik
At the Devil’s Fee, the player will meet Helsik, the shop's owner. Helsik possesses valuable information to assist the player in reaching the Nine Hells and confronting Raphael. However, acquiring this information comes at a cost, which the player will find unsurprising upon learning that Helsik is a devout follower of Mammon, the Lord of Avarice.
Helsik assures the player they can provide a means to enter the House of Hope in Baldur's Gate 3, Raphael’s ornate mansion within Avernus, the first layer of Baator. This substantial dungeon houses enemies, challenges, and valuable artifacts, along with the opportunity to face Raphael himself, so the player will certainly want to learn what they can from Helsik.
Helsik, who refers to herself as the Latchkeeper of the Nine Hells, holds the knowledge of reaching the House of Hope and offers access through completion of a ritual. However, the player must barter with Helsik to learn the process of successfully invoking the Helsik Ritual and opening a portal to the Nine Hells, granting entry to the House of Hope. The player is presented with three methods to receive this information:
- Paying outright the 20,000 Gold Helsik initially requested.
- Succeeding in an Intimidation check to lower the price to 10,000 Gold.
- Passing a Persuasion check to persuade Helsik to exchange the ritual items for a specific artifact within Raphael’s mansion.

Baldur's Gate 3: How To Romance Astarion
Astarion is one of the many romance options for players of Baldur's Gate 3, and this flippant, hungry vampire is pretty easy to woo.
Regardless of which method the player selects, upon Helsik’s agreement, they will receive from her an old grimoire, which outlines the requirements and process of performing the Helsik Ritual and the necessary items to complete the summoning act and bring forth the portal to the Nine Hells.
How to Perform the Helsik Ritual
The Helsik Ritual involves a puzzle where five objects must be placed in a specific arrangement on a bloody circle found in the Ritual Room, accessed via Helsik’s Room, located upstairs in the Devil’s Fee. The player will use five specific items also provided by Helsik to complete the ritual: a skull, the Coin of Mammon, a diamond, Incense, and the Infernal Marble.
These items must be dropped from the player’s inventory onto specific locations of the bloody ritual map. The instructions for completing the ritual are detailed in the book Opening a Hell Gate and are also outlined below. When the player and their party enters the Ritual Room, they will pass the altar and the point of the ritual map which should be considered the top of the sigil. Therefore, walk past the altar, then turn around and place each object are as follows:
- Skull - Place the skull at the center point at the very top of the sigil, nearest the altar.
- Coin of Mammon - Traveling clockwise, position this item in the very next circle.
- Diamond - The diamond should be placed in the bottom right corner circle.
- Incense - The incense should be placed in the bottom left circle, directly next to that of the diamond.
- Infernal Marble - The Infernal Marble should be placed in the center of the bloody sigil.
Correct placement of the items will activate Helsik’s Ritual and summon a portal to the Nine Hells, granting the player and their party access to Avernus and the House of Hope in Baldur’s Gate 3.
